Alot of you guys requested if there is a way to SSH XBMC or NitoTV, so i have created this video to show you guys its very Easy to SSH on Windows, i found a software named PuTTY, and i may pronouce it as Patty, but yes its Putty, i’ll place a link here so you guys could get it too…
so
1. Jailbreak Apple TV 2G using Seas0nPass
2. After jailbreak, connect your Apple TV 2G to your Mac OS X and SSH into it using the Terminal app. or Ubuntu and now Windows via PuTTY
3. Use root@ip-address as username and ‘alpine’ as password. You can find out your device’s IP address from Settings –> WiFi –> ‘Name of your Network’.
We recommend you to change your password immediately using the ‘passwd’ command. Type passwd ‘new password’.
4. Add the source repository for NitoTV. Type this one after the other:
echo “deb http://apt.awkwardtv.org ./” > /etc/apt/sources.list.d/awkwardtv.list
apt-get update
apt-get install com.nito.nitoTV
killall Lowtide
5. Restart your Apple TV 2G.
So there you go! You have successfully got your first jailbreak app for ATV 2G.
I followed all the steps but when I came to the last step- to unplug my apple tv and hdmi and plug back in- I get the itunes logo with a picture of a power cord cable and the power light on the apple tv flashes like crazy…. what did i do wrong?
you forgot tetherboot after jailbreak
I too get the ‘apple logo’ with a usb cable image on my TV.
I did tetherboot after the jailbreak… Do i need to do it twice?
To answer my own question… (It might be of value to others)
You DO have to tetherboot AFTER you finish installing nitoTV, where the last step is to unplug the power and HDMI cables. This was not obvious to at least two of us, so might be a good idea to add to the instructions above…
yes my friend
when the tethered boot is done don’t take the power cord off
Tried to ssh my aTV2 4.4.3 using these steps with no luck this is what I got.
Apple-TV:~ root# echo .deb http://apt.awkwardtv.org ./. > /etc/apt/sources.list.d/awkwardtv.list

Apple-TV:~ root# apt-get update

Do it again make sure you don’t miss any . or / and it should work I tried and it works for me
i had this same issue did u get this resolved?
Try this
http://www.xctechs.info/?p=1445
THIS IS THE CORRECT WAY, echo “deb http://apt.awkwardtv.org ./” > /etc/apt/sources.list.d/awkwardtv.list
THE ONE YOU PUT IS WRONG LOOK, echo .deb http://apt.awkwardtv.org ./. > /etc/apt/sources.list.d/awkwardtv.list
IT IS “deb INSTEAD OF .deb AND SAME FOR org ./” INSTEAD OF org ./.
Please use nito Installer here is the link http://www.xctechs.info/?p=1544
i have the same probleme like blair !
Tried to ssh my aTV2 4.4.3 using these steps with no luck this is what I got.
Apple-TV:~ root# echo .deb http://apt.awkwardtv.org ./. > /etc/apt/sources.list.d/awkwardtv.list

On This line, i see an extra .
echo .deb http://apt.awkwardtv.org ./. > /etc/apt/sources.list.d/awkwardtv.list
Try this
echo “deb http://apt.awkwardtv.org ./” > /etc/apt/sources.list.d/awkwardtv.list

What i did wrong ???
What i should do now ?
There is a new video that explains about tethered boot, this is not untethered so you could take your power code off,

E: Type ‘.deb’ is not known on line 1 in source list /etc/apt/sources.list.d/awkwardtv.list
I feel like i have tried to do this a hundred times
it worked the first time then I added xbmc and it crashed now it wont work???
Help
U need type every little . And / and space if you miss it you’ll get these type of error so saying this you need to try again
Ahhhhhhaaaa
When copying and pasting the repository it changes the Quotation marks to periods.
So i switched them!!!!
Now it works Finally
Do you have a good step by step video for installing and using XBMC? do I have to have an XBOX? Every time I install it doesnt work. it goes on my main screen then I click it and the screen goes blank comes back on and nothing happens??????
Thanks for any help
It has nothing to do with Xbox this software is total different you need to share folder and movies from your computer must be connect same router with appleTV and connect
Hi xctechs ! All seemed to work fine, Jailbreak using Seas0nPass
Used PuTTY to install. Only issue was the killall Lowtide command which returned “No matching processes were found?” (Used the command killall AppleTV – hope this isnt my prob)
Now on reboot appletv menu screen is there, everything looks ok I can see the installed NitoTV but I cannot get the remote control to action anything? light on the front of unit still blinks? Stuck now, Any help appreciated.. Cheers
if the Killall Lowtide don’t work just use Killall AppleTV
yes, already done that 🙁 like i say everything seems ok I can see NitoTv on the menu screen now it’s just that one apple tv remote doesnt appear to work anymore so I cannot select any options or do anything within apple tv once it’s switched on.
nitoTV installation has nothing to do with ATV2 Remote control, onces You Ssh NitoTV take the power cord out and put it back in so it restarts it should be good if your Tethered jailbreak then make sure you tether the ATV2 back
i get this when i copy the source
root# E: Type ‘.deb’ is not known on line 1 in source list /etc/apt/sources.list.d/awkwardtv.list
mine works fine, i want to you type word by word and not cut and paste since you can add extra charactors
hi,i followed the steps, when i typed in the IP add 192.168.1.6 (as what shown in the tv, there is a prompt pops out says network error: connections refused…why is that so?
therefore i cant even log in as there is no black page comes out.
HELP
make sure you Jailbreak your AppleTV 2 first then connect to same router or network that your Computer is connected try again
Can,t find or get Icefilm to work.
yes its because its not supported by xctechs, icefilms not compatible with ATV2 and if you need please check on there official website
