Due to the increase in Jailbroken iOS devices and due to the fact that there are a lot of people new to the Jailbreaking scene. XCtechs team thought it would be a good idea to remind its readers to change their SSH (root) password to their AppleTV 2. Now a question I am sure you are wondering is \u201cwhy would you want to change your SSH password, and what is an SSH password?\u201d<\/p>\n

Well, when you Jailbreak your AppleTV 2\/ATV2, or any iOS device for that matter, you are gaining root access over the entire iOS filesystem. By default your iOS device protects itself from being tampered with by a root user using password protection. The problem is, everyone has the same root password \u2013 \u201calpine\u201d. Which means hackers, are free to gain full root access to your iOS device if they please (this actually happened awhile back). As this is very big threat to your security, we are going to show you how to change your AppleTV 2\u2019, root password on the iOS 5.0 or iOS 5.1.1 firmware.<\/p>\n

Note<\/strong>: This method will work on any firmware version and any iOS device. On MAC\/Ubuntu you can use Terminal and Windows you need to download\u00a0PuTTY<\/a>..<\/p>\n

I will show you what to process on Windows 7 Using PuTTY<\/p>\n

1. Download PuTTY from Here and Get your iP address from AppleTV 2<\/p>\n

3. Enter Your\u00a0existing Password alpine<\/span><\/p>\n

4. Once your In, \u00a0to change your password type passwd<\/span><\/p>\n

5. \u00a0It will show you following Picture to Enter New Password Just type a new password something that you could always\u00a0remember<\/p>\n

6. it will ask you to Retype new password<\/p>\n

7. onces its then just exit out by typing exit<\/span><\/p>\n
